José Cura & Szymon Nehring Final Concert of JESZCZE POLSKA MUZYKA 2015

World-famous tenor and conductor José Cura, joined by the only Pole to qualify for the finals of the 17th International Fryderyk Chopin Piano Competition. The Beethoven Academy Orchestra invites you to this year’s final edition of the “Poland’s Music Still…” series.

The presentation of the most valuable, though often forgotten, works of Polish symphonic music, juxtaposed with masterpieces of European music – these are the ideas behind the “Poland’s Music Still…” program, the aim of which is to preserve Polish cultural heritage as a determinant of national identity formation.

Ahead of us is the final concert of the 6th edition of this cycle, featuring: Szymon Nehring, a finalist of the 17th International Fryderyk Chopin Piano Competition in Warsaw, and the world-renowned Argentine tenor and conductor José Cura.

Famous for his powerful portrayals of opera characters (especially the role of Otello), but also achieving great success as a conductor and composer, José Cura was captivated by the passionate and committed performance of the Beethoven Academy Orchestra. He first met the ensemble in May this year, performing Gustav Mahler’s monumental Symphony No. 2 in C minor, “Resurrection,” as part of the opening concert of the Ada Sari International Festival of Vocal Art.

Charmed by the excellent cooperation with the Beethoven Academy Orchestra, the artist decided to meet the ensemble once more. This time, however, he will reach for the music of Sergei Rachmaninoff, Mieczysław Karłowicz, and Mieczysław Weinberg, who remains relatively unknown in Europe and worldwide. The program for this extraordinary encounter will include: Weinberg’s “Rhapsody on Moldavian Themes,” Rachmaninoff’s Piano Concerto No. 2, and Karłowicz’s Symphony in E minor, Op. 7, “Rebirth.”
