The concert inaugurating the 11th edition of the original festival series exploring unknown Polish music. In the extraordinary acoustics of the Performance Hall of the Youth Palace on Gumniska Street in Tarnów, Roman Palester’s 1931 diploma work will be performed for the first time in the world. Psalm V for baritone, mixed choir and orchestra, with lyrics by Wespazjan Kochowski taken from the collection Niepróżnujące próżnowanie (Unidle Idleness), will be performed in a version edited by the composer in 1988.
The Beethoven Orchestra, together with Vincent Kozlovsky, continues its series of recordings of this composer’s works, following the success of Kołaczy, Czesław Miłosz’s Three Poems and Letters to Mother. Psalm V was awarded second prize in the Wielkopolska Association of Singing Societies Competition in Poznań in 1932 and, according to the composer, is his leading and most recommended work. The evening in Tarnów will be rounded off with Brahms’ Symphony and Paderwski’s Overture.
