BOLEK AND LOLEK SYMPHONICALLY is an initiative aimed at children aged 5-9. The project involves the screening of well-known cartoons from the Bolek and Lolek series with a live symphony orchestra performing the soundtrack. This cartoon, beloved by the youngest audiences, will serve as a starting point for the educational part of the program, which aims to familiarize children with the symphony orchestra, its instruments, sections, etc. Furthermore, the juxtaposition of image and music provides an opportunity to demonstrate musical properties such as tension, mood, and color. Various methods of achieving acoustic effects—allowing us to hear, for example, the sound of an arrow, falling apples, or dripping water—will also be showcased. The project has already been successfully implemented in 5 cities in Poland during the 2013 and 2014 editions. An added value of the project is the promotion of classics of Polish cinematography.
Our idea combines the authentic symphonic sound of the orchestra with onomatopoeic sounds performed by a percussion group, based on the imagery of the iconic animated film. The selection of films within the concert follows a chronological order of their creation to introduce the viewer/listener to the childhood, adolescence, and ‘adulthood’ of the characters. During the show, the films will be presented in the following sequence:
Overture, opening credits film Introductory remarks by the host Film: The Crossbow (Kusza) Host’s commentary Film: The False Grandfather (Fałszywy dziadek) Host’s commentary Film: On the Islands of Polynesia (Na wyspach Polinezji) Host’s commentary Film: Little Red Riding Hood (Czerwony Kapturek) Host’s commentary Film: Defenders of the Law (Obrońcy prawa) Host’s farewell Final Suite: The Aching Tooth (Chory Ząb)
