Edita Gruberova is a world-class Slovak singer who began her international career on the stage of the Vienna State Opera in 1970 and since then has been enthusiastically received by audiences all over the world. She has sung in the most prestigious music theaters and concert halls, from Milan to New York, and on September 20th she will visit Kraków as part of the ICE Classic series. In the capital of Małopolska, she will be accompanied by the Beethoven Academy Orchestra under the baton of Peter Valentovic.
“Edita Gruberova is a soprano whose voice is famous for its extraordinary purity and power,” says Izabela Helbin, director of the Krakow Festival Office, the operator of ICE Kraków, and continues: “The September concert as part of the ICE Classic series will be a unique journey through the most famous roles of this outstanding artist. We will hear arias from such famous operas as Bellini’s »Norma« or Donizetti’s »Lucia di Lammermoor«. This is a concert that no opera music lover should miss.”
During the third edition of the ICE Classic series, we will have the opportunity to hear the most famous works of opera music. The evening will open with the overture to “The Barber of Seville”. Next, guests of ICE Kraków will be able to marvel at the performance of the aria “O luce di quest’anima” from “Linda di Chamounix”, “Il dolce suono” from the opera “Lucia di Lammermoor”, and above all, the finale of the first act of “Roberto Devereux”, the performance of which is a flagship display of the soprano’s skills. In this part of the concert, the orchestra will also play overtures from “Don Pasquale” and the previously mentioned “Roberto Devereux”.
In the second part of the concert, we will hear the overture and the famous aria from the opera “Norma”, the instrumental meditation from “Thaïs” – a work by Massenet that has never been staged in Poland – and the “mad scene” from the opera “I Puritani”, where Edita Gruberova will present the full range of her vocal qualities.
