Darmstädter Residenzfestspiele, Final concert

The Darmstadt Concert Choir, under the direction of Wolfgang Seeliger, presents works under the motto “A New Europe Stands!” at the conclusion of this year’s 15th Darmstadt Residence Festival, works that stand as beacons of hope for the ideals of freedom, peace, and solidarity. Tchaikovsky’s Overture “1812” embodies Russia’s victory in the Napoleonic Wars of 1812. Beethoven composed the cantata “The Glorious Moment” specifically for the opening of the Congress of Vienna, and his famous Ninth Symphony is not only a key work of symphonic music but is also the official European anthem.
