On October 18th, the Concert Hall of the Academy of Music in Katowice will host a performance of “Mice and War, or the Adventures of the Brave Albert” by David Chesky, an American composer nominated for three Grammy Awards. “Mice and War” is a children’s opera that shows the absurdity of war to the youngest music lovers and teaches acceptance of different cultures, while also introducing children to classical music. The opera condemns greed, but it also offers a humorous lesson in morality and ethics.<\/p>\n
The libretto tells the story of the enterprising and warlike Blue Mice, who live in the North, and the calm, peaceful Red Mice, who live on an island in the South. The Blue Mice want to get rich, so they decide to start a war. The reason for the war? The Blue Mice eat Pink Cheese, while the Red Mice eat Yellow Cheese. What would happen if the Red Mice arrived and convinced the Blue Mice to eat the Yellow Cheese?<\/p>\n
Before the performance, there will be an introduction for young audience members, led by Marta Saciuk-S\u0119dzielarz. The host will explain the different types of opera and the voices used in it, and with the help of the musicians, she will demonstrate the sounds that each instrument can imitate.<\/p>\n
